호흡이 있는 자마다 여호와를 찬양할지어다.

뉴욕 여선교회 연합회의 일 년 중 가장 큰 행사인 제13회 연합선교 찬양제가 9월 25일 주일 오후 6시에 롱아일랜드에 위치한 뉴드림교회에서 열렸습니다.
Hicksville 에서 얼마 전에 East Norwich이라는 타운으로 이전한 아름다운 성전에 일찍 도착하니 두 교회가 벌써 리허설하고 있었고 뉴드림교회 담임 목사님과 장로님, 권사님들께서는 오늘의 찬양제를 위해 음향시설과 청소 등 마지막 점검을 하고 계시고 부엌에서는 여선교회 회원들이 저녁식사 준비에 한창이셨습니다. 

이번 찬양제에는 뉴욕 일원에 있는 7 교회에서 150여 명의 한인연합감리교회 식구들이 모였고, 뉴드림교회 찬양팀의 찬양을 시작으로 하나님께 감사예배를 드린 후에 찬양제 순서로 진행되었습니다. 모두 11개 찬양팀이 작년보다도 더 다양하면서도 개성 있는 프로그램으로 합창과 중창 또는 독창과 몸 찬양 등으로 다양하게 순서를 빛내주셨습니다.

그중에서 가장 인상에 남는 몇 팀을 소개합니다. 첫째 팀은 뉴드림교회의 필로스(Philos) 남성 중창단입니다. 김남석 목사님이 쓰신 가사에 같은 교회의 안대휘 권사님께서 곡을 붙이신 ‘드림과 드림-Dream and Giving’이라는 새 곡으로 목사님과 작곡자님 또 찬양팀 리더 권사님 이렇게 세분이 부르신, 제목만 봐도 알 수 있는 은혜가 넘치고 마음을 울리는 감동의 찬양이었습니다.

두번째 팀은 뉴욕 베델교회에서 오신 3명의 ‘섬기며 춤추는 사람들’의 몸 찬양팀으로 장구를 곁들인 고전 무용으로 하나님을 찬양하였는데 그 모습을 보면서 다윗 왕이 춤추며 찬양하며 기뻐하는 모습과   “비파야, 수금아, 깰지어다 내가 새벽을 깨우리로다” 라고 한 시편 구절이 생각났습니다. 온 몸으로 이렇게 찬양하며 감사의 표현을 할 수 있는 달란트도 참으로 하나님께서 주신 축복이라고 생각했습니다.

마지막으로 KUMW Young Woman 최보민은 우리의 민요 ‘밀양 아리랑’과 ‘진도 아리랑’을 어머니 김순덕 회장의 장단에 맞춰 불렀는데 젊은 여성의 국악 찬양을 통해 우리 연합회 찬양제에 새로운 장르를 소개해 주어서 신선하고 좋았습니다. 그 외에 찬양제 마지막 순서를 장식한 올해 처음으로 참여한 뉴드림교회 여성중창단과 성가대 팀의 찬양도 깊어가는 가을 하늘에 울려 퍼진 멋지고 아름다운 피날레였습니다.

뉴욕연합회의 찬양제를 위하여 기꺼이 교회를 열어주시고 맛있는 저녁 식사로 우리를 환영해주신 뉴드림교회 김남석 목사님과 모든 교우, 여선교회 회원들께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 또 매년 찬양제 때마다 발간되는 프로그램 책자를 위하여 지난 일 년 동안 원고를 써주신 분들께 감사드리고 광고로 후원해주신 모든 교회와 사업체와 개인 분들께도 진심으로 감사를 드립니다.

이렇게 또 한 해의 행사는 마무리하지만 바라기는 우리가 마음에 품고 함께 찬양해야 할 아시아 여성과 아동과 청소년들을 위한 기도가 끊임이지 않기를 바라며 그들의 땅에 뿌려진 한 알의 씨앗이 자라서 언젠가는 왕성한 숲을 이루는 날이 곧 오기를 소망합니다.

Let Everything That Breathes Sing Praises To The Lord

The New York Conference Korean UMw Network’s biggest event, The 13th Annual Praise Night, was held at the New Dream Korean UMC on September 25, 2016 at 6pm. It has a beautiful church building relocated not long ago from Hicksville to East Norwich.  When I arrived early, there were already two churches rehearsing for the event.  The pastor and the lay leaders of the church were busy checking electric devices for  the sound system and cleaning the place, and the church KUMW members were busy preparing the dinner for the participants.

At the event, 150 participants of seven churches around the New York area were gathered.  We began by singing together praise songs led by the New Dream praise team.  Then the worship service began, followed by ‘the Praise Night.’
Eleven praise teams were presented with diversity and its own characters, which included choruses, ensembles, solo and liturgical dance.
I would like to talk about a few teams that stood out to me. The first group which opened ‘the Praise Night” was the Philos Male Singing Ensemble of the New Dream Church.  The title of the song was “Dream and Giving.”  The song was written by Rev. Nam Suk Kim and composed by a church lay leader, Dae Hwi Ahn.  The singing of the three members, including Rev. Kim and Mr. Ahn, moved everyone’s hearts.  It was such a blessed moment to be able to hear the song of hope, to hear about God and His Dream, to we are giving ourselves to.
The second group called ‘The People of Serving and Dancing’ was from the New York Bethel Church.  The three members of the group played and danced a traditional classical dance with the Korean traditional instrument of Jangoo.  It was a new experience to see praising God with liturgical dance incorporating Korean traditional instruments, dance movements, and costumes.  It reminded me of King David dancing and praising God with joy and saying, “Wake up, lyre and harp!  I will wake the dawn with my song.”  It is a blessing to see the bodily expression to God’s greatness through liturgical dance. 
The last group that I would like to share was the KUMW’s Young Woman, Bomin Choi, who sang two Korean folk songs of  ‘Milyang Arirang’ and 'Jindo Arirang.' She was accompanied by her mother who played the Jangoo.  Hearing a young woman singing traditional songs in ‘the Praise Night’ brought a new perspective to the event.
The closing finale of ‘the Praise Night’ was sung by the New Dream church’s group by a women ensemble and by the church choir who participated for the first time in this event.  What a blessing moment it was! Surely the presence of our Lord was with us in this place and in our praise.

We as the NYC KUMw Network give our sincere appreciation to Rev. Nam Suk Kim and the congregation of the New Dream church, and special thanks to the KUMW member of the church for providing a delicious meal.
I personally thank everyone who wrote articles for the Praise Night program book, and also give thank to churches, business owners, and individuals who supported this event through sponsoring ads.
I hope that our prayers and support for the women, children and youth in Asia will continue, and hope to see someday a planted small seed in Asia grow and become a great forest.

가을 바자를 마치고

하나님의 자녀가 되어서 하나님을 더 깊이 알고 하나님을 믿는 일에 동참하며 여성과 아동, 그리고 소외된 자를 향하여 세상의 맛깔나는 소금의 역할을 해 나가는 교회로 살아가도록 모든 여선교회원을 부르시는 주님께 감사드립니다.

올가을도 내년에 있을 선교학교를 준비하는 마음으로 남가주 여선교회 연합회 임원들은 기꺼이 기뻐하며 가을선교 바자를 준비하고 진행하였습니다.

함께 준비하면서 새 임기를 시작하는 임원들의 적극적이고 젊은 열기의 섬김은 모든 준비를 수월하게 하였고 특히 이번 선교부장님께서 많은 바자물품을 미리 정리 배분을 해 주시고 각 물품에 “남가주 여선교회 연합회” 스티커를 붙여 주시는 참신한 배려와 목요일 바자준비작업, 토요일 바자물건 픽업 등 모든 일이 순조럽게 진행된 것에 우리 모두 웃음꽃을 피우며 서로를 격려하며 감사하였습니다.

그리고 목요일 힘겨운 된장,고추장 분리작업을 마친 후 선교부 제 2 부장님의 점심 대접으로 새 임원들은 서로를 알아가는 시간도 가지며 즐거운 교제도 하였습니다. “이렇게 모든 진행이 빨리 수월하게 진행되다니…. 주께서 나에게 주신 축복”이라고 말씀하는 울 회장님… 우리는  모두 이번 임기 임원들에게 주께서 열심히 하라고 주께서 함께하신다는 메시지로 받습니다. 서로의 배려가 주님의 축복으로 다가옴을 믿고 임기 동안 더 열심히 순종하여 섬기는 여선교회원들, 임원들이 되기를 기도합니다.

매년 두 차례 열리는 봄과 가을 바자에서 올가을에는 더 많은 교회 더 많은 여선교회원들의 참여로 더 많은 바자수익이 있었습니다. 이 수익이 장학금으로 쓰일 내년에 있을 선교학교에도 여선교회원들의 적극 참여로 우리 자신을 선교하며 이웃과 열방을 향한 하나님의 마음 또한 알아가며 적극적으로 선교의 지경을 넓혀가는 여선교회 연합회가 되기를 기도합니다.

After the Fall Bazaar for Mission

We are the children of God. Lord, we thank to you for your grace, letting us know you deeper and helping us to work in our belief of you, Jesus. Our Lord, we thank you because you called and asked the all the members of the UMW to live as tools of the living church to serve the women, children, especially ones who are ignored from society.
             The new board members of the Cal-Pacific KUMw Network prepared the Fall Mission Bazaar with joy, in expectation for 2017 Mission-u.  All the work and preparation for the Fall Mission Bazaar went so smoothly because most of the new members were young and served with aggressive positivity and a passionate manner. The mission director extensively prepared, arranged many of the bazaar goods, and attached stickers stating “Cal-Pacific KUMw Network” to them in advance. 
             This advanced preparation helped us to finish the Thursday preparation. Much encouraging words were passed between each other working. Our faces bore great smiles and thanks to the Lord. The Mission-u directors invited the members to lunches so the new board members had a good time to get to know, share and develop a good relationship with each other after we finished the hardest job of putting the bean paste and hot pepper sauce into the bottles on Thursday. 
             The Head of the Cal- Pacific KUMw Network exclaimed to me, “How wonderful all our efforts are done so quickly and smoothly! This is a blessing to me…” We all received this message from our God encouraging us to do our best for this event. I pray for the members of the Cal-Pacific KUMw Network and the board members in this term to serve the churches and God’s Kingdom, obeying with passion and faith.
             Every year we have the Mission Bazaar twice in the Spring and Fall. During this Fall Bazaar, many churches and their congregants participated and helped raise the bazaar's net profit!  This money will be used for the scholarship of Mission-u participants. I pray for all the women members in the churches who participate the Mission u so that all participants will not only learn to act in mission themselves, but to also know our Father’s heart toward our neighbors, and other nations. I pray this so that the UMW and Cal-Pacific KUMw Netwotk will positively broaden and expand our works as missionaries.

머리카락 안빠지게하는 물

천일염 (sea salt)을 물에 타서 컨테이너에 담는다.
샤워기 옆에 비치해 놓고 샴푸 끝난 후, 저 소금물을 두피에 뿌린 후 30초 정도 두피를 살살 마사지 해준 다음 깨끗이 헹구어 내면 됩니다.
매일 해야 할지 2-3일에 한 번 할지는 두피 상태에 따라 각자 알아서 해주세요.
물과 천일염의 비율은 10 : 1 (진하다 싶으면 좀 더 묽게)로 타서 씁니다.
한 이틀 정도 사용하면 벌써 머리카락 빠지는 것이 줄어들고 머리 냄새도 덜 납니다.
추가로 샴푸는 계면활성제가 들어가지 않은 제품을 쓰세요. (sulfate free)

It’s very simple to make:
1. Fill a container with water
2. Add sea salt to the container in a 10:1 ratio
3. Stir salt into water until dissolved
Keep the container beside the shower and after shampooing.

Massage your scalp with the salt water for 30 seconds and then rinse thoroughly.

Repeat every other day for oily hair.
You should see results after two to three times use.

1884년, 오하이오 연회 리벤나 지방의 제일연합감리교회의 여선교회 회원이었던 루시디아 볼드윈은 어둠 속에 살던 한국 여성들에게 복음을 전하기 위해 $88을 지정헌금하였습니다. 가족을 잃고 슬픔과 절망에 빠져 있던 볼드윈은 소망을 잃은 한국여성들의 삶에 대한 이야기를 듣고 남편의 재산을 정리하여 헌금하였습니다. 성경의 밀가루 반죽에 넣어진 누룩처럼, 한국여성을 향한 볼드윈의 헌신은 커다란 사랑이 되어 한국에 전해졌습니다.

1885년, 한국으로 파송을 받은 감리교 여선교사 매리 스크랜튼은 이 헌금으로 이화학당을 시작하였습니다. 한국여성들이 중심이 되어 절망 뿐인 한국이 소망을 회복할 수 있도록 여성들을 교육하였으며 현재의 이화여자대학교로 발전하여 여전히 영향력 있는 수많은 여성리더를 길러내고 있습니다.

루시디아 볼드윈과 메리 스크랜튼의 선교열매인 우리 한인여선교회 회원들, 한인여선교회는 우리가 받은 사랑을  다시 전하고 있습니다.

“Easier if we do it together: $1,000 fund raising for NNKUMw”

The National Network of the Korean United Methodist Women has held the leadership training every two year since 1993. The last event was held in September in Nashville, Tennessee. The leadership training was made possible by financial support of the Women’s Division and donations from KUMW members. Many leaders who received training are currently working as pastors, officers at the jurisdictional and conference level, and Women’s Division board of directors.  Many young Korean American women also participated in the training event.  

The NNKUMw is a mission fruit of the UMW. Its dramatic growth has a beautiful story behind the faith in action of one UMW unit.  In 1884, Lucidia Baldwin, a member of the Ohio Conference, gave the designated offering of $88.00 to be used to educate Korean women in Korea.   She was having a difficult time after deaths of her husband, daughter and grandson all at the same time when she heard about the plights of Korean women. She sold her husband’s property and gave the offering to the Ohio UMW Conference.  With this offering, the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church (North) was able to send Mary Scranton as its first woman missionary to Korea and started Ewha School for Girls in 1885. She can be compared with the woman in the Bible who made the bread with yeast and shared it with her neighbors.   We can say we are offspring’s of Mrs. Baldwin’s mission offering, so we owe her the debt of mission.

The members of the NNKUMw are learning, sharing, and growing together with the leadership training.  We are doing our best to bear another mission fruit by the national leadership training and the Bible Women’s Program abroad.   To be able to achieve our goals, the leadership training plays a vital role.

Since 2007, the  NNKUMw had the leadership training event without the support of the UMW National Office.   We need $60,000 for the 2017 national training event.  We need your help. If many members of the NNKUMw donate $1,000 over two years, the training event will be possible.

It is easier if we try together!

We can become another Mrs. Baldwin in spreading the good news of Christ to women, children and youth who are still living in the dark. We ask you to write a new chapter of mission history by enabling the national leadership training to be the tool to develop future leaders for Christ.
